2007年１月１日からスクラムのルールが変更になることは、多くの方はご存知だと思う。

１２月半ばには、南半球の監督、レフリーなどがオーストラリアに集まって、ルール変更の確認を行なっていた。

Rewrite law 20.1(h) as

The referee will call “crouch” then “touch”.

The front rows crouch and using their outside arm each prop touches the point of the opposing prop’s outside shoulder.

The props then withdraw their arms.

The referee will then call “pause”. Following a pause the referee will then call “engage”. The front rows may then engage.

The “engage” call is not a command but an indication that the front rows may come together when ready.


クラッチ、の次に「タッチ」が入る。「タッチ」では、フロントローが外側の腕を相手の外側の方に触れることが必要となる。そして、「ポーズ」、「エンゲージ」という４つの動作となる。

ニュージーランドラグビーアワード受賞者が発表された。

予想通り、Kelvin R. Tremain Memorial Player of the Year　は、Richie McCaw　だった。新聞の記事でも、「予想通り」と書いてあった。

2006年のスタインラガーラグビーアワードにノミネートされた人々が、ニュージーランドラグビーユニオンから発表された。この賞は、2006年にニュージーランド国内のゲームで活躍した人々に贈られる賞だ。賞の発表と授賞式は１２月１４日に、オークランドのスカイシティーで行なわれ、テレビ生中継される。


Kelvin R. Tremain Memorial Player of the Year　にノミネートされたのは、Daniel Carter、Richie McCaw、Malili Muliaina　の３名。


Rebel Sport Super 14 Player of the Year　にノミネートされたのは、Daniel Carter、Leon MacDonald、Jason Eaton　の３名。


最初の賞は、いわゆるPlayer of the year で、２つ目の賞はスーパー14のゲームで活躍した選手に贈られるということだと思う。カーターは２つのPlayer of the year にノミネートされている。

ちなみに、IRBの2006年のPlayer of the year は、Richie McCaw　が受賞。受賞後のインタビューでは、

「いいチームでいいプレーヤーと一緒にプレーできたことがラッキーだった。タフなチャレンジで、簡単ではなかったけれど、賞をもらえてよかった。過去２年間、タナウマガの副キャプテンとしてプレーをして、タナからいろいろ教わることが多かった。それに、現在も、アントンオリバーとルーベンソーンという、オールブラックスのキャプテン経験者が２人いるので、いろいろアドバイスをもらっている。オールブラックスのキャプテンという視点からも、チームがとても良かったし、自分にとってもエキサイティングなチャレンジだったと思っている。来年のワールドカップもいい結果を残せたらいいと思っているし、それもビッグチャレンジだ。」

というようなことを言っていた。このリッチーのインタビューもそうだが、グラハムヘンリーのインタビューなどでも、しきりに「チャレンジ」という言葉が出てくるのが、とても印象的だ。これが大きなキーワードになっているのかもしれない。
